Some of the most meaningful notarizations don’t happen in an office—they happen at a hospital bedside, in a hospice room, a skilled nursing facility, or in someone’s home during one of life’s most difficult moments.
At Coffee Shop Notary PDX, we understand that these appointments often come during times of illness, uncertainty, or major life decisions. My goal is to provide professional notary services with patience, dignity, and compassion while following Oregon notarial law every step of the way.
What Is a Vulnerable Signer?
A vulnerable signer may be someone whose age, illness, injury, medication, or physical limitations make a notarization more challenging. These circumstances do not automatically prevent a person from signing documents, but they do require extra care to ensure the notarization is completed properly.
Common appointments include:
– Powers of Attorney
– Advance Directives
– Estate planning documents
– Healthcare paperwork
– Affidavits
– Other important legal documents
My Responsibility As An Oregon Notary
As a commissioned Oregon Notary Public, my responsibility is to verify the identity of the signer, confirm they are signing willingly, and ensure they understand the notarial act taking place.
A Notary Public does not provide legal advice or determine whether someone has legal capacity to create a will, trust, or power of attorney. Those legal questions belong to the signer and, when appropriate, their attorney. If I am unable to confirm that a signer is aware, willing, and able to communicate directly with us, Oregon law may require us to decline the notarization.
Preparing for a Mobile Appointment
To help appointments go smoothly, I encourage families and caregivers to have a few things ready before we arrive:
》A current, acceptable government issued photo ID (or another identification method permitted under Oregon law).
》 Documents that are complete and ready for signature.
》 A quiet environment where the signer can communicate directly with my, the Notary Public of Oregon.
》Any witnesses required by the document and their ID’s, if applicable.Having everything prepared allows me to focus on serving your loved one with care and respect.
During the Appointment
Whenever possible, I speak directly with the signer.This allows me to confirm:
– Their identity.
– That they understand the document they are signing.
– That they are signing voluntarily.
– That they are not being pressured or coerced by another person.
If concerns arise that cannot be resolved, I may need to postpone or refuse the notarization. While that can be disappointing, protecting the signer—and maintaining the integrity of the notarization—is always our highest priority.

I recognize that many of these appointments happen during emotional moments for families. My goal is never to add stress. Instead, I strive to create a calm, respectful experience while carefully following Oregon law. Every client deserves to be treated with patience, kindness, and dignity.

Office Convenience & Admin Fee: $30.00 per 30 minute session. One session minimum fee applies to all office appointments.
Additional In-Office Option: A meet up within a block of my downtown Hillsboro suite will be considered an in office appointment.

I’m also available for Group Signing Services (two persons or more). These services would be for the basic sign & stamp notary acts listed above.
Standard Notarial Act State Regulated: $10.00 per signature
Professional Services: $40.00 per client instead of minutes per session. Does not include the $10 state fees.
Document Witness (non-notarial): $10 one document; $5 apiece additional documents. Does not include the $10 state fees.
Group Discounted Travel Fee – Per Persons: $20
Group Fee Discounted – Per Person Example:
$20 Travel Fee + $40 Professional Service Per Client + $10 One State Regulated Notary Act= $70
($10 Second State Regulated Notary Act = $80) And so forth….
